Local Research

The Branch offers advice to those wishing to research relatives who served in the Great War; it provides speakers on a number of topics, including several specific to the Heart of England area; it also tries to keep alive the memory of those who fought in the Great War by writing articles for local newspapers and magazines.                                                           Read More...

Branch Trips

Branch trips have been run for more than 12 years and have visited all parts of the Western Front. Recently, walking parties have provided a rather more energetic way of exploring the battlefields. Our contacts with neighbouring branches of the WFA give members the opportunity to participate in their trips as well.

About Us

Monthly Meetings

Monthly meetings allow members to keep in touch and afford the opportunity of listening to some of the leading authorities on the Great War. Topics are not restricted to the Western Front and embrace all aspects of the War.

Meetings take place on the second Wednesday of the month at the Warwick Arms Hotel, High Street, Warwick, CV34 4AT. See the map on the Contact Us page for the location of the hotel and car-parking.

Doors open: 7.15 p.m.; branch business: 7.45 p.m.; speaker: 8.00 p.m. Meetings normally finish by 9.45 p.m.

We ask for a donation of £3 from those attending a meeting in order to meet the costs incurred, including refreshments. The Branch also runs a raffle to help cover its additional expenses.

Non-members of the WFA are most welcome.

Our Members

There is considerable expertise within the Branch. Members include the webmaster of the highly regarded ‘Long, Long Trail’ website, as well as others who have conducted research on a wide variety of topics, including those commemorated on war memorials in our area, family members who served in the Great War, local aspects of the War, the history of fighting units, collections of letters etc. Much of this research has been published.

However, the Branch also welcomes people whose interest in the War is at an early stage.

Branch Newsletter

The Branch produces a quarterly newsletter which updates its members on our activities and provides an outlet for individual research.
